Just Opened: Dishoom Carnaby

Its impossible not to spot the new Carnaby London branch of cult Bombay style restaurant Dishoom because there’s always a strong queue outside.
Ever popular, this latest opening is much welcomed and a great new addition to the Oxford Circus restaurant scene.
Britain loves Indian food but calorie laden takeaway curries and dirt cheap set menus have given the scene something of a bad reputation. Not so Dishoom, where dishes are light and colourful, curries are only a pitt stop on the menu and the interior is beautiful, buzzing and hip. We visited for the soft opening and tried far more dishes than our waistlines actually needed. Crispy bhel, savoury puffed rice, was served with a contemporary sprinkle of pomegranate. A paneer wrap was the perfect lunch time dish, modestly described as a light snack but actually a generous portion. Sizzling dishes of fish and seafood were moreish and the one curry we tried was a delight. Drinks were mostly various flavours of lassi, but I also tried a flat white and found it perfect. I can imagine myself here at breakfast for a coffee sitting in beautiful courtyard filled with couches and brightly coloured cushions. Dishoom is set to be a dangerous work lunch addiction.
