I’m hyper and somewhat shaky, the result of an afternoon spent savouring everything the London Coffee Festival 2016 has to offer. The event, held at The Truman Brewery in Shoreditch, is held across two levels, with coffee centric stalls in abundance. The lines of people waiting to enter the afternoon session were somewhat daunting, but the lines moved fast and inside it was busy but not so crowded you couldn’t enjoy everything the event has to offer. As well as coffee roasters there are stalls from some of London’s best coffee stores, and the worst (Starbucks), coffee liqueurs like Khalua, Baileys and boutique Mr Black, an espresso bar, live band, coffee machines, chocolate, and a array of milk alternatives to satisfy the current anti dairy Zeitgeist. I tried Oat milk, and I’ll admit that I liked it. As well as the odd milks, I experimented with chocolate jerky from Hotel Chocolat, an array of teas (unexpected at the coffee festival) and of course lots of coffees – filtered, espresso, flat white, hazelnut coffee, espresso martinis, flat white martinis, cold press coffee… the list is endless. There’s still one more day to visit, just make sure to eat and drink water in between so you don’t come out feeling concerned about your heart beat…
