They’ve just celebrated their one month anniversary in one of the trickiest coffee selling environments known to man – a hot london summer! But, despite the call of cold cider elsewhere, Brooklyn Coffee has quickly managed to gain a reputation for having the best coffee on Commercial Road – and certainly holds it’s own on the Shoreditch Coffee scene. The beautifully designed space is greyscale, minimalist and clean. Not so the counter treats, which are a hodge podge of American inspired pretzel/chocolate concoctions, hearty brownies and cookies and even the odd ANZAC biscuit thrown in for the antipodean contingent. Run by bonafide New Yorkers, Brooklyn Coffee is just one of the new arrivals to Commercial Street, a stretch previously notorious for its street walkers and pimps. With the addition of Brooklyn Coffee, several gallery spaces and a organic food store, the street is finally catching up to its neighbours Brick Lane and Shoreditch High Street in the hipster stakes. Brooklyn has a tough job on its hands competing with the Goliath Costa across the road. But with super friendly staff, highly personable service and the perfect flat white, I think David and Brooklyn Coffee will win this battle.
